Minchin place names

As part of the series on the Minchin name, I am collating place names containing "minchin", and trying to determine their origins.

  • Towns

    • Minchinbury, New South Wales, known throughout Australia for its champagne.
William Minchin was the Principal Superintendent of Police and Treasurer of the Police Fund in the colony. He was granted 1,000 acres of land in the area named after him and now known as Minchinbury.

    • Minchinhampton, England. This is Stroud gives the origin:
The name actually takes its meaning from an old word for "nuns" - William the Conqueror originally gave the town to the Abbaye aux Dames of Caen.

    • Minchinton, England

    • Minchinabad, Pakistan

  • Roads

  • Natural features
