As noted by
The Guardian, a patent settlement between HTC and Microsoft has resulted in Microsoft earning $5 per Android phone sold by HTC. Given that Microsoft charges around $15 for their own Windows Phone 7 OS we can calculate how much revenue Microsoft is getting from Android via HTC versus from their own software from all manufacturers.
According to
Business Insider HTC sold 24 million handsets in 2010, 70% of them Android. At $5 each this equates to $84 million.
WMPowerUser gives a generous 3.75 million Windows Phone 7 handsets. Let's say
four million, at $15 each, giving $60 million. Oh...
I wonder if there are Microsoft haters who now studiously avoid HTC Android phones.
