Immigration nations

Wikipedia's entire list of countries by foreign-born population in 2005 is an interesting read. I'd love to know the reasons for the different rates in different countries. Do people move to Switzerland for the chocolate? Why do so few people move to the Czech Republic compared to its neighbours?
