I bought a Logitech Harmony 650 universal remote control in 2012, when I lived in Australia, for the equivalent of £25. After a great deal of use and abuse it recently died, so I've started looking for a replacement. That model has been discontinued, and replaced with the slightly updated Harmony 665 (the main change seems to be that it's black instead of grey). Anyway, I was greatly surprised to find that the 665 is currently being sold by Amazon UK for £105. I'd expected technological progress to make it cheaper, not over four times the price. What happened to technology driving prices going down over time?
Studying the price history at
CamelCamelCamel raises even more questions. Why did the price leap from £70 to £115 earlier this month? For now, I'll postpone purchasing until it appears somewhere at a more reasonable price.
