Who runs trains in Britain?

It may come as a surprise to many, but the operators of British railways are mostly state owned. A list in The Independent indicates that under a sixth of operators are entirely private. A few are run by the British government, but most are owned by other European governments.

So, next time I travel into London on Southeastern (French government) and around London on the London Overground (German state) I'll be experiencing a bit of continental Europe.
